Why Your Social Media is Slacking (& How to Fix It)

Why Your Social Media is Slacking

There’s no worse feeling than not getting any engagement on social media, but there’s ways to fix that! If you’re wondering why your social media is slacking, it’s time to pick it up. Start with these tips.

You Don’t Engage With Others

The most common blunder we notice business owners making is not engaging with other users online (particularly those in their target audience). You should have nailed down a target audience and go out of your way to engage with these folks wherever you are spending your time online.

Facebook provides Facebook Groups (and is currently placing a lot of emphasis on this element of the platform) where you can share your expertise and connect with others who may need your services. Same goes for LinkedIn.

Twitter hosts Twitter Chats where folks from a specific niche get together and chat industry trends, ideology and more. You can do a quick search for those in your niche and join in at their designated dates and times.

Instagram offers a level playing field for anyone desiring to grow their brand, corporate or not. Simply use hashtags and geotags to discover folks whom you want to engage with and leave meaningful comments, enthusiastically like their posts, and if you feel they could be converted into a follower or customer of yours, hit that follow button!

You Don’t Use Automation Tools

There are several tools out there that can save you time and heartache when used effectively. These tools can automate your postings, make sure that you consistently share content and get it circulated in the areas that matter most. Here’s a few of our favorites:

Later (or Planoly): These are scheduling softwares for both Facebook and Instagram, but primarily a fantastic resource for Instagram users who want to plan out the visual look and feel of their grid and also schedule Stories.

Hootsuite: Similarly to Later and Planoly, Hootsuite is a practical scheduling software, great for LinkedIn and Twitter, in addition to Facebook, and Instagram if you don’t care about the visuals (which I don’t recommend). I primarily use this for clients who use LI & TW.

Tailwind: The perfect go-to tool for Pinterest, Tailwind allows you to mass schedule pins in advance, as well as grow your views by utilizing Tailwind Tribes and SmartLoops (extra fancy features that are super necessary to the circulation of your content!).

SproutSocial: This all-in-one social media tool allows you to schedule and analyze all in one spot! While a little on the pricier end, SS is a great investment to ensure that you are hitting all the marks - great for larger scale businesses or corporations.

Your Content is Lacking

Are you creating content with your audience in mind or because you enjoy the content? The first question you should ask yourself is: Who is this content for and why am I making it? Thinking about the pain points that your target client or customer experiences and how you are showcasing the purpose of your service or product is key in every piece of content that you produce.

It’s equally important to make sure that your content is engaging - that you’re experimenting with different types of content - beautiful images, video (both pre-recorded and live), Stories with polls and Q&A, articles and blogs.

You’re Out of Touch with Your Audience

In the event that you don’t already ask yourself the above question of “who is this for?”, mapping out your target personas is SO important to complete in the beginning of your strategy.

And although it isn’t everything, keeping a record of your most important metrics is super helpful in terms of tracking on the most popular content that resonates with your audience, the best times of day to post, and more.

I hope these tips helped brainstorm ideas for how you can take your social presence to the next level! What is something you want to strengthen on your social media in the coming year? Leave it in the comments!
