Why Community Makes Us Grow & Competition Stifles Us
In the creative fields as independent consultants and business owners, we are trained to see our counterparts as competition - we are pitted up against each other instead of invited to the table to collaborate (especially us women!). There's several reasons why community makes us grow and competition stifles us, but here's just a few...
There's Enough to Go Around
Believe it or not: there's SERIOUSLY enough work to go around, gals! It may not seem like it locally, and it sure doesn't help when your competitor seems to be taking the region by storm, but trust me when I say that there are the perfect clients/customers out there just waiting to find and fall in love with you, your philosophy and methods! You can meet them on Instagram, through Google searches, the opportunities are E.N.D.L.E.S.S! Besides: when you put your heads together, perhaps you could even collaborate with your competitor on a really rad project.
We All Have a Unique Approach
Not a single person in a similar field is going to approach client/customer relationships and the work in the same way - we all have different creative brains and unique approaches that make us stand out. I always say: if you're looking for a vanity metric, brain-centered strategic partner who will buy followers and break algorithms to please you, I'm not your gal!
I'm a heart-centered creative partner ready to increase your brand awareness and authority through tried-and-true content marketing methods that preach slow and steady wins the race. You have to fully embrace the holistic process and how much goes in to a successful digital presence. With the trends changing nearly every week, it's vital that clients and customers pick the right consultant or product - the one that fulfills their needs and approach. Having more to choose from in their area is so important and gives everyone equal opportunity.
Everyone Deserves Fulfillment
At the end of the day, we're all looking to belong and feel fulfilled in all our life's endeavors, but particularly our careers. There is no darn reason that the universe would betray you - and it won't. Take a listen to Bri Seeley's "Permission to Leap" audiobook while you crank out those emails - she will dead serious change the way you single-handedly impact your business outcomes by setting intentions and declaring things impossible/possible for yourself. We end up where we are destined to be in the end and I truly believe that everything happens for a reason.
We're #BetterTogether
I'm not lying! When we team up to tackle what seems like the impossible, magical things happen. When the right and left-brained creatives come together to execute a campaign, brainstorm ideas and hold space for each other's individuality, we are all seen as worthy of success, reminding us that the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts.
Yes, unfortunately there will always be the few competitors who choose to compete instead of collaborate, and believe me when I say: girl, have I met one or two! I worked incredibly hard to cultivate #CommunityOverCompetition through my networking group Oly Girlboss Collective, but still sometimes fall flat resonating with others who aren't as heart-centered/driven.
I don't respond well to the overly charismatic, businessy smooth talkers who don't really know their stuff, but can convince anyone that they do. I fall head-over-heels for the community movers-and-shakers who put the group's needs before their own best interest and grow their business by referring and leaning on others, dedicating all of themselves to the process and showing up authentically day in and day out.
So, tell me: how can I best assist you along your business journey? Whether I become your consultant or your collaborator, I'd love to know (and meet over a latte soon!).
Video content is the name of the game nowadays, especially on social, and it doesn’t need to cost a fortune to produce! I wanted to pull back the curtain and highlight my own social media video strategy as a marketing consultant.
